lamp and brickwork

Lamp and Brickwork
June 2008

My iTunes: Goodmorning, Baltimore from Hairspray

Hmm, the red is continuing... but this time it was unintentional. I snapped this shot, along with several others, at one of the buildings where I've been conducting my research. I wish I had more time for photography, but perhaps that will come. For now, I've just been focusing on my research.

Today I found something very exciting -- a scrapbook full of information about opera in Philadelphia from 1800-1860! It is in four volumes, so I will be spending considerable time transcribing it over the next week or so. For the rest of the weekend, my project is to examine the group of sheet music from the Library Company's collection and see what trends I can find: which composers were popular, how many publishers there were in Philadelphia, what years were important in music publishing, what languages were popular, what operas were represented, etc. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to find business records from some of the music publishers and find complete lists of their inventory. That might be too much to hope for, however...

And happy birthday (a day late) to Anna!

What's interesting about this image is your angle. Although looking up, the light and brick blend so smoothly, taking away most of the appearance of three dimensionality. That's a lot of big words to say, "I like it." Happy research. :)

Wonderful shot! Simple... a hint of elegance, even.
